Te Wainui A Rua Poa

Te Wainuiarua Poa is named after the almighty river that flows through Whanganui. She was born in Te Kuiti, the hometown of her father Michael Poa and resides in Whanganui, the hometown of her mother Tina Poa.

Her father is from Ngāti Maniapoto, Ngāa Puhi, Ngāti Hine, Te Whanau-A-Apanui and Ngāti Porou and his whanau consists of three sisters and three brothers. Her mother is from Atihaunui-A-Paparangi, Ngati Ruanui, Nga Rauru, Nga Puhi and Ngati Whatua.

Her mother is of Māori and Chinese decent with a large whanau that consists of four sisters and six brothers.

Te Wainuiarua is 17 years of age, and has three brothers and four sisters. Currently a year 13 student at Wanganui High School, she is Deputy Head Girl and Co-Chair of the Student Council.

Her ambitions for life are to enjoy what life gives her and to work hard for what she thinks is deserved. Te Wainuiarua is a wahine of Te Awatipua, and she will hold fast to that till she resides under Papatuanuku. “Ko au te awa, ko te awa ko au”.
