Mauriora Takiari
Huihuinga Wahine Emerging Leaders Scholars 2014


Mauriora Tawaroa-Takiari is from Kaiwhaiki Marae on the Whanganui River. Her iwi are Te Atihaunui-a-Paparangi, Ngāti Maniapoto and Ngā Puhi.

Currently a Year 13 student at St Josephs Māori Girls College, she is preparing to enter Victoria University, to study a Bachelor of Law and Commerce.

Mauriora has represented her College at the Manukorero Māori Speech competitions, the O’Shea Shield, as a leader in her school Kapa Haka, and various other leadership roles. She has also represented her Whanganui people as leader at their Iwi Rangatahi Summit, and Iwi Tira Hoe Waka.

Mauriora has been mentored throughout life by her nannies, mother and aunties, to be have strength as a wahine in developement and leadership for their people. Music, Sport and whanau are her passions.
