Mark Jeffries
Primary ITO: training and development


Mark Jeffries was appointed as the head of Primary ITO in August 2014 and, with 27 years’ experience in the Australian and New Zealand primary industries, brings with him a vast amount of industry knowledge.

Mark moved to New Zealand from Australia in 1997 to take up a role with Livestock Improvement Corporation. In 2003 he was appointed CEO of the NZ Meat Board and Meat & Wool NZ and through his tenure led a range of trade, market and R&D initiatives. Key initiatives under his leadership included: Wool Innovation Network (NZTE), Emerging Markets Project (NZTE) and sales of the Catapult genetics business to Pfizer.

Most recently, he was Chief Executive of Agri One, a joint venture between New Zealand’s agricultural universities - Massey and Lincoln.

Mark has also been involved in the Steering Committee of the Primary Industry Capability Alliance (PICA) for three years. PICA involves a number of industry-good organisations and education providers to promote a collaborative portal for engagement with students, employers and industry.
